Books & Be You Buddies

BE YOU

More than a children’s book. It’s the permission to stop performing and just be.

Some children are quiet. Some are loud. Some feel everything deeply and some need more time to warm up. All of them are exactly right. Be You gives young readers something rare: full permission to show up as themselves, exactly as they are, without editing a single thing.

I believe we never stop needing these words regardless of our age.

Be You builds the emotional foundations children carry for life: self-trust, self-expression, and the unshakeable belief that who they are is enough.

The book opens the door. Everything you need to go deeper is waiting on the other side at thebeyoubook.com: the full story behind the book, resources for parents and caregivers, and tools to help the conversations this book starts keep going long after the last page.

Be You Buddies – One of A Kind, Just Like You

One of the first things I learned in a therapy room is that people need something to hold.

Plain:

Fully Customized:

Clients reach for pillows. They squeeze whatever is nearby because the body needs somewhere to put what words can’t carry yet. We instinctively give children stuffed animals and comfort objects because they are soothing. When a child grips a lovey, the nervous system gets a signal: something real is here, something I can feel, something that is not going anywhere. That physical anchor matters and is one of the most direct ways we have of telling the body it is safe. Adults need it too.

My clients grab the Buddies. They hold them while they talk. They squeeze them when the feelings get big. I have watched something shift in people the moment they have something in their hands, something small and soft and a little bit silly, and realize they are allowed to need that. That the need itself is not childish.

I make each Buddy by hand from repurposed materials. Old denim. Fabric scraps. Things that have already been worn and washed and lived in. The process matters as much as the outcome. The rhythm of hand stitching slows me down in a way I need. It is repetitive and tactile and grounding and a little bit meditative, and it makes me laugh, which is also medicine.

The whimsy and imperfection is my point. We are all a little lopsided, a little frayed, a little unfinished. The Buddies wear it honestly. That is what I want for the people who hold them too: permission to be exactly that human, exactly that real, and to find that it is more than enough.

Each one is one of a kind. Just like you.
